Selling this beautiful Linn - Troika, that has been repaired, updated and adjusted by Torlai Roberto, one of the best cartridge wizards in the business. Basically this an as-new cartridge.
LINN Troika was the last cartridge from LINN to use the legendary Japanese SUPEX motor, here in a much improved housing from LINN. Many refer to the LINN Troika as ‘’the best SUPEX ever’’.
I had one of my cartridges for repair at Torlai Roberto, and he offered me this updated Linn for a good price to use as a temporary/additional cartridge. He has updated the LINN with an Ogura PH-PA cantilver and stylus. This is the very expensive top model from Ogura, where the cantilever with stylus alone is said to cost more than 500 euros. Torlai Roberto has fitted this to the original Supex motor, meaning both the coil former, the coils, and even the suspension is the original SUPEX. The suspension is still fresh, and the cartridge track perfectly.
The pictures are of the actual cartridge for sale, and I have used it for 2 weeks only. It’s mint condition and comes with the original box and stylus guard.
During the two weeks use I had the chance to compare it to a number of high end cartridges, and it sounds suprisingly close to My Sonic Lab - Eminent EX: The Torlai Roberto version of the Troika is a bit sweeter overall and a bit softer on the bottom end. The MSL a bit more powerful in the bass, but less of that seductive sweetness. My friend who brought his MSL to the comparison and myself really had to listen carefully to hear the difference between them, because they share a lot of similarities on tonality etc. So if you know the MSL, you will have a good idea on how this sound. Mind you the MSL cost around 4-5000 euro.
It has been sitting it the box as a spare, and I feel it’s better that it get’s some use, so selling as part of a larger ‘’new years inventory clean up’’.
