Description
Due to the thinning out of the audio hobby: Quad Esl 988. In the last 2 1/2 years, both electrostats have been completely restored for a total value of just under €3000. Invoices of these restoration with serial numbers are of course available. The restoration is done by the official Quad service centre of the Dutch Quad importer "Nieuw Transtec".
5 of the 8 panels have been completely renewed and the other 3 have been overhauled. One of the 2 loudspeakers still has a remaining warranty.
The electrostats play like new again and provide decades of listening pleasure.
Very homogeneous spatial presentation. You can listen for hours without getting tired.
Transparent, fast and dynamic. And without any trace of sharpness or shrillness.
The mids and highs have authority, sound full and have "natural warmth", just like voices and instruments in real life. This is in contrast to many other electrostats, which can sometimes sound thin and shrill.
The 988's bass is really rich and very well defined. Prejudices that an electrostat cannot reproduce bass are unjustified with this model.
In rooms smaller than 60 square metres, the 988 is far preferable to the larger 989. In most Dutch living rooms, the Bass of the 989 sounds too boomy and uncontrollable.
Trade-in for well-known compact loudspeakers such as B&W, Dynaudio, Focal, Sonus Faber etc. is negotiable (but no dreamers please)
