The bass of the Magnepan 30.7 is presented by the bigger of the 2 panels which are meant to be placed on the outside. The bass sounds very accurate and tight, never too much, never too less. Ever heard someone talk about Magnetostatic loudspeakers not having bass? Throw that statement out of the window. Not only produce the Magnepan 30.7 plenty of bass, what's even more important, the bass is of a very high quality. Not boomy or resonating, but well defined and realistic.
The midrange and high notes are produced by the smaller panels, meant to be placed on the inside. This panel consists of a midrange magnetostatic driver and a true ribbon tweeter. The midrange and high notes are quick, dynamic and transparent but never harsh. This is because the ribbon tweeter and midrange membrane have a very lineair display of sound, no matter what volume you are playing on. You can play electronic music very loudly and the sound remains stable and it never gets 'shouty'.
To drive the Magnepan 30.7 you will need an amplifier with a nice amount of power, if you play 85dB or below, many amps are capable of driving these huge panels. If you want to play a drum solo or electronic music louder than that, then we advice to have a very stable and well built amplifier. Think of Dan D'Agostino, Aavik Acoustics, McIntosh, Pass Labs, Spectral, Vitus, Gryphon or other powerful high end amplifiers.
