Description
I am parting with my Magico A5s, acquired this year to live with them a little in my dedicated room and assess whether the speakers/room pair could make me give up my Vivid G1s or Egglestonworks Andra 3s, or even if a move to a bigger Magico could tempt me.
My conclusion is that my room treated with bass traps in the bass and the closed load of the Magicos is not the best suited to the A5s, I lack room gain in my configuration to have a satisfactory balance and the breadth offered by the G1s or Andras. I would have to go for Magicos that are not within my means to fully please myself, so I prefer to choose another direction and continue my life together with the others by implementing them as best as possible.
This is also quite consistent with Diapason's review in France about the A5, in hindsight, the A5 with its closed load poses fewer problems of integration into a classic interior than others once well positioned according to the manufacturer's recommendations, in coherence with the nearby walls, while offering a readability and presence in the bass that is uncommon if well driven.
The Magico behave better when well coupled to the floor, so it is easier to have a concrete floor (or parquet-type covering glued to concrete) to control their restitution, otherwise it is necessary to plan to decouple them from a wooden type floor that can vibrate.
For the rest, in the Magico range the A5 are the large model of the A series, but above all they are among the most recent in design of the brand, using the latest generation of Graphene Nanotech drivers that can be found on the S3 2023 and the M7. The A5 therefore only has the tweeter in common with the other older Magico A series, and is technically higher up the range than the latter. Its ability to play loud without distortion, its tonal neutrality and resolution capacity surpass the old Magico A or S in mid-bass. Moreover, I must admit, the recording analysis abilities, the dynamic capabilities, the ability to play loud without flinching or twisting... of the A5 surpass my current speakers in many ways, especially if coupled with my Soulution 511 power amp.
The A5 are fine and resolute, dynamic, expressive, they embody in space all the content of the recordings with unparalleled readability, making a deal between neutrality and tonal beauty that could delight many sound engineers in their studio. The instruments and voices are materialized with an often disturbing reality. In terms of amplification associations, the Soulution 511 is a royal road and even if I am not selling my amp at the moment we can discuss it if someone is interested in the couple (even if all this is expensive the conditions that I can offer remain quite rare), otherwise it is necessary to provide an amplification that has control at low impedance, without necessarily going for war machines, I am thinking in particular of the Benchmark AHB2, the Devialet 220 pro for a more posed but controlled partnership integrating the source.

My A5s come from Germany, are known to the brand and the importer who sold them in 2021, they are in perfect condition with their original packaging. The previous owner used them in a family living room so they have never been mistreated or pushed, for me they are equivalent to new, for a price that can only be found in the United States second-hand without taxes or shipping to Europe...
They weigh 80kg each, I do not plan on shipping, so they can be listened to and collected in Loiret 150km from Paris, or I can ensure delivery by myself within the limits of French borders after payment (bank transfer only) under conditions to be defined at the time of purchase.
